Bio

Long Biography

Brian is a Queer, working class Chinese-Jamaican man who lives in Toronto Centre with his partner Jeff. He lives with a facial difference also known as a facial disability (Google it). In 2017, 2019, and 2020, he was a candidate for Canada’s NDP. He has an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Policy and Practice from Innis College, University of Toronto and a Magisteriate in Environmental Studies from York University.

He’s an active musician, in his eighth season with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. He’s the only freelance choral music journalist left in the GTA, having written over 120 stories and columns for the Wholenote and Ludwig Van Toronto.

Currently, Brian is a Research Associate at SEIU Healthcare, helping to fight for enhancements to the 60,000 frontline healthcare workers across Ontario. He was previously at the Public Service Alliance of Canada and Ontario Public Service Employees Union.

As a millennial, Brian has experienced the first hand issues facing so many in our generation, political apathy feeling unheard in Government especially on environmental issues; the decline of expert advice and value of good information as a researcher; precarious work as someone who has only ever been able to get one permanent full-time job; and homophobia and racism in workplaces and as a political candidate. Brian is ready to fight for Toronto Centre.
